Say hello to George

IMG_00188

Sarah and Mark were married back in 2007. I love keeping in touch with my couples. From our first meeting during a consultation, to the wedding day, to the birth of a child. It is so inspiring to me to see relationships grow. George was born back in December. Lets have a look-

Like the background? It is this cool retro 70’s fabric I found. I have quite a few different, crazy patterns! Notice the red spot on George’s arm. That is actually his birthmark! So unique, and I would say that means “good luck”-

Liam is Danielle and Bill’s lil’ guy. He is a Red Sox fanatic, just like his Dad. I hear that Dad will teach Liam how to dance soon. Ha!!

Springtime is time for engagement sessions! I take my couples out on location with beautiful architecture as a backdrop. How important is an engagement session? SUPER important!! Not only is it a great way for us to get to know each other better, but I want to see how comfortable you are in front of the camera and make your experience fun and unique! I put all the names of my couples into a hat and chose 4 sessions to feature on my blog. Lets have a look-

backbeat…

IMG_0026

Ok, where did I leave off-

IMG_5977

Sorry I’ve taken so long to write again!! There are alot of big changes for me. All good. I left off with our trip to Paris and Iceland. I thought it would be fun to compare the two. What do you think?! We’ll start with Iceland-

IMG_0630

Iceland… all you can do really, is laugh. If I had to describe the country in one word, how about the “moon”. That’s what it felt like. Being on the moon. Have a look-

IMG_6134

We got to the airport, which was the size of my condo. Morgan and I had to take a bus to “the centre”, which was an hour ride. There was nothing to look at. I mean NOTHING. You see above, just volcanic rock. Oh, and moss-

IMG_0627

Here was the swanky hotel. Hotel Bjork. We didn’t see Bjork at all! Remember this pix; this was our hotel in Iceland. Quite a difference from our hotel in Paris-

IMG_5628

Wouldn’t you say?!

IMG_5601

This was the view from our balcony in Paris. Now lets look at the view from the hotel window in Iceland-

IMG_6102

Ouch!!! Wait, there’s more-

IMG_6118

Beautiful grey sky. Actually, the weather never changed. Well, we were only there for 2 days.

IMG_0619

This Viking was quiet

IMG_0615

This was the most color we saw.

www.lindajaephotography.com

IMG_0629

There was just sooo much to do in Iceland-

IMG_6122

I photographed a piece of Iceland’s “signature” hard candy-

IMG_6129

We found a British TV station that was like “Lifetime Movies”. All these sappy movies where the women are scorned. We watched a fabulous Ann Margaret movie. Don’t we look excited?!!

IMG_6137
On our way back to the airport, we stopped off at a hot springs resort for a few hours. It was so windy. I mean, gale-force winds. We were in our bathing suits. We were freezing from the shoulders up. Swearing too-

IMG_0634

They had a lifeguard keeping watch. This pix was taken through a window with my point and shoot, so the quality is crappy. But you get an idea as to how windy it was!

IMG_0630

So when I say that all we could do was laugh about being in Iceland. I meant it! How many people can say they’ve been there. Don’t get me wrong. I am glad we went. Will we go back? Hmmm-

I want to finish my trip with a few of my favorite photographs that I took-

Next time: wedding season is here!! I had lots of pix of engagement sessions, weddings and fun baby portraits to show you. Stay tuned! Don’t forget to check out the “Melange” page for a good hoot-

more life in Paris…

10145486_gal[1]

Bonjour Audrey-

 IMG_5938

Wait, come back here-

IMG_0581

I am still “pondering life’s thoughts” about Paris. I am trying to adapt the European attitude more, which is “living in the moment” and “doing things at a slower pace”. Why not?  Remember, that our “to do list” will ALWAYS be there. Anyway, as promised, here is some really cool advertising in Paris-

IMG_5721

IMG_5830

IMG_5842

This was inside the Metro (train) station. They really have an Anydy Warhol thing going on-

IMG_5804

IMG_5966

 IMG_6070

Color, color and more color

IMG_5969

Look at this gorgeous stained glass-on the train track?!!

IMG_0605IMG_0606

I was so intriqued by this French man. Inspector Clouseau? Check out the cigarette holder. What a scream! I probably had my camera on him for a good 10 minutes. Just waiting for the right moment. Then…click-

IMG_5930

There weren’t very many fruit stands. Who wants fruit when you can have this?-

IMG_5845

No wonder my pants are tight. I actually went up a size. It was worth it, I tell you!-

IMG_5659

Don’t forget! Memorial Day weekend is the second to last weekend in May. If you are planting flowers, be sure to visit the Nursery before the holiday. After that- there is squat left.

IMG_5942

IMG_5984

And be sure to choose flowers that adapt to the sun or shade and not order the wrong thing, like crepes.

This is a mall. That’s right, a mall in Paris. It’s called “The Galleria”. Have you ever seen a mall so elegant and over the top. It is currently Barbie’s 50th anniversary. To celebrate, some top designers (such as Karl Lagerfeld, Dianne von Furstenberg, Anna Sui) made tiny little outfits for these Barbies! They were displayed in cases at the mall. Lets have a look-

img_0497

img_0509

Look at this fabulous bridal gown!

img_0511

This is a 1962 Barbie- a collector’s item that I bought and brought home. Isn’t the hairstyle a scream?!! You should see inside the box, there is a dress, little shoes, a little comb, little earrings and pearl necklace. I love it.

img_0513

I tried to let Barbie know how much I enjoyed the display. She didn’t listen to a word I said-

img_0514

Even Morgan gave her a little “wink”. No response. What a snob-

Parisian supermarkets are tiny and smelly. Nothing like Shaw’s-

img_5772

I must say, that during the day, the Eifel Tower looks like a bunch of steel that isn’t really that pretty.

img_5761

As the sun starts to go down, it looks a lot prettier-

img_6041

Then at night-WOW! It is a spectacular sight-

The architecture is just breathtaking. I couldn’t get enough of it. I wanted to photograph everything in site-

My trip to Paris and Iceland

img_0344

The story goes like this; we flew Iceland Air. The stewardesses had the coolest “pill box” hats. They looked like they were out of the sixties. Couldn’t quite believe that there wasn’t a meal included for such a long flight. And what is this about paying to use a pillow and blanket?! What’s next-charging for each piece of toilet paper?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PARIS

img_5628

This is the hotel we stayed at called “The Lenox”. It was located in The Montparnasse district, which is in the southern part of Paris. We LOVED the neighborhood. It was relatively quiet for a city-

img_5605

The rooms were tiny. What I love is the huge french window. No screens? No bugs in Paris? Didn’t see any-

img_5601

The view from our window overlooked a beautiful courtyard with a water fountain-

img_5603

The weather was mostly spring-like during the day with cool evenings. It only rained a couple of times-

img_5638

Here is the hip lounge of the hotel. They had an “honesty bar”. That meant that you could help yourself to anything as long as you filled out a form, charging the cost to your room. Get this- the cost of a cup of coffee? $6.25!!-

img_5623

This was our neighborhood. The cost of food alone in Paris is plum crazy. There are really no quick “take out” places. I kept craving a cup of coffee with CREAM-

img_5674

There were no SUV’s in Paris. Just tiny, tiny cars. Lots of Smart cars. The streets are so narrow-

img_5697

Here is a Smart car. Lots of people riding bikes-

img_5931

and mopeds galore!

img_5859img_5861

Like our berets? Ah, oui, we got these at a flea market-

img_5702 img_5754

A police van and look at the outside of police headquarters. The French are here to help! (even though I didnt’ see any on the streets)-

img_5720

I went crazy over the little garden patios with the gorgeous french doors and architecture. Got some great ideas for my deck!-

img_5777

Ahhh, Paris- manifique-

img_5813

img_5799

It seemed as though everybody smoked. And wore a scarf. French men are hansome-sexy, hip and thin. The women have flawless skin and are very stylish-

img_0516

One thing I noticed about Parisians and Europeans in general is that they take the time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. They are classy and take manners very seriously. I didn’t see anyone on their cell phone or furiously texting on their Blackberry. There was no “sense of urgency” attitude, like there is in the US. It was refreshing to see-

img_5753

Kids are well… just kids. No fancy gadgets. Just enjoying each other’s company- something that we as Americans take for granted. This lil’ cutie was snoozing on our tour bus.

img_0417

This was myself and Morgan’s first extended vacation together. We relaxed and just sort of got lost in each other. Spending 24/7 with anyone is tough, and we had a couple of  little “moments”, but overall, it was incredible! I am so lucky to have this man in my life-

img_04077

img_04188

It felt terrific to get all dressed up once again-

spring cleaning…

March 4, 2009 - Leave a Response

img183

I am ready for Spring

It is tax time. Every year, I have the daunting task of going through my lateral file cabinet. This is a big project. A project that you procrastinate about, then when it is done, you’ll feel like a new person. Or Audrey Hepburn.

img_001333

As I sipped my Earl Grey tea and pondered life’s thoughts, I tore through my whole office like a mad woman. I came across a portfolio of b&w images from my college days when I was studying photography and practically slept in that darn dark room. I thought I’d share some of these images with you-

img260

Grand Central Station- NYC. I experimented with slow shutter speeds. This was done at 1/45th of a second. It was during rush hour. There were hundreds of people, but only the people who were standing still are in the image.

img261

Central Park  NYC

I lived in NYC for 3 years. An experience I’ll never forget. I moved there to go to Theatre School for a 6 week program and ended staying trying to make it as an actress. I kept a journal of all of my auditions. I lost count at 300. Tough busines! Glad to be a photographer-

img262

London

I’ve  back-packed through Europe in 1990, 1991 and 1993. Then I went to England in 2000, 2002 and 2003. My favorite country? Switzerland! Cannot wait to go to Paris and Iceland next month with Morgan!

img264

This was a mistake. Literally. I had no idea what happened while I was developing a roll of film in the darkroom. Perhaps a little light leaked into the canister and spoiled part of the film. Sometimes, mistakes can turn out to be really cool images!

img265

Love, love love old diners. And the characters that go there-

img268

An artist in Montreal

img272

This image always reminded me of an episode out of “Law and Order”.

img270

For my final project in my photography class, the subject I chose was The Homeless. I spent a day in Boston talking to various homeless people and asking if I could photograph them. Everyone has a story. Everyone. It was both sad and inspiring-

img271

img273

This man smiled when he saw me approaching with a camera and took out his comb to fix his hair. Then he went back to being sad-
